THE ALCHEMIST PAPERS
IDEA EXPERIMENTS
At the end of 1976 I was dissatisfied with painting as the best means of recording my ideas. I initiated a lengthy period of producing notes and instructions for art works; including installations, environments, sculptures and multi-media paintings (some of which I actually created). I also begun a series of theatrical works. This output continued until 1983, although I returned to large scale drawings almost immediately and to painting in the early Eighties.
I produced a second period, of mainly written ideas, during the first phase of the Ionist Art Group - roughly between 1987 and 1991. A lot of these were published in the Ion Exchange and covered similar ground to the later "Brit Art".
I am currently exploring various means of presenting this vast body of work which I have entitled The Alchemist Papers (after my interdisciplinary interests at the time).
I HAVE ONLY INCLUDED BELOW WALL HANGING AND RELATED LARGER PIECES WHICH I ALSO PRODUCED AT THE TIME (LATE SEVENTIES) USING THE SAME PRINCIPLES
